How to Apply for KRA Waiver Using iTax

How to Apply for KRA Waiver Using iTax : In some cases, individuals may forget to file their returns within the designated period. As such, they fall victim to facing the harsh wrath of the law. However, they can escape this wrath by writing a KRA waiver. This is a document or letter that one writes addressing KRA. In it, one states the reasons why KRA should not impose on them the penalties for late filing of returns.

In a nutshell, you want these penalties discarded or waivered. Most people in Kenya cannot apply for a KRA waiver merely because they do not know how to go about it. Here is a simple guide on how to apply for KRA waver using iTax.

Step 1: Access the iTax Portal

Log into the KRA Portal. You will be required to state your KRA PIN Number. After you entered it, click on the ‘Continue’ button. You will be asked to provide your KRA iTax Password. Similarly, you will be asked to solve an arithmetic question, which acts as the site’s security stamp. After you have done all this, click on the login button.

Step 2: Access the iTax Account iPage

After you have successfully logged in using your KRA PIN Number and iTax Password, the iTax iPage account will automatically appear. This is the same as the KRA Web Portal Account. Click on the ‘Debt and Enforcement’ tab. Below it, a drop-down sub-menu tab scribbled ‘Request for Waiver of Penalties and Interests’ will pop-up. Click on it so that you can proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Fill in the Application Form for Waiver

Step 3 is the most significant step in the waiver application process. The KRA Waiver Application Form will contain multiple fields. For instance, it will have Section A, Section B, the Applicant Information section, Upload Document, and Details of Waiver segment. Go ahead and fill in all these details. Ensure you also add the liability details of the waiver. Double-check the information you have provided to ensure that it is accurate.

After that, you will be required to upload the KRA waiver letter. You ought to choose the tax obligation (Income Tax Resident Individual) option and then the tax type, which, in our case, is the Penalty. After you pick all the liabilities, the KRA Penalties will auto-populate. If content with the information you have provided, click on the ‘Submit’ button.

Step 4: Download the Acknowledgement Receipt for KRA Waiver Application

The last step of the KRA Waiver Application request using iTax entails downloading the acknowledgement receipt for your KRA Waiver application. Click on the Download link to download the receipt. It is the last confirmation of your KRA waiver application on penalties in your iTax account. You can use the receipt to track the status of your KRA Waiver Application.
